preparation
I rented the nightclub. I enlisted the help of my friends Random
(a long-time club promoter, and the brain behind the
Slick
fetish ball) and
Brian Behlendorf
(creator of Hyperreal,
the net's largest Rave resource), and together they lined up enough
djs to fill the whole night in both rooms; we were in business.
I hacked together a web-page flyer,
and announced the party
on the top-level mozilla.org page.
The email started pouring in. ``But I'm going to be at IETF!''
``But I'm going to be at JavaOne!'' ``But I live in Switzerland,
will you buy me a plane ticket?'' So I added the
Party FAQ, answering these and other
pressing questions.
Oh no, the t-shirts!
I had been talking to Shepard and Philip at
Black Market about doing some
artwork for mozilla.org, and
just a few days before the flyer went up, Shepard had sent me his t-shirt
design (pictured above.) Excellent! Now we just needed to get the shirts
printed and shipped in... less than a week. Gulp.
How many? We need to give some away at the party, obviously.
Ok, I'll just order a bunch and figure out how to get the company to
pay for them later. Say, 1,000 shirts. Back I went to the suits.
``Bob would like 300 t-shirts for his division. No, he's not going
to pay for any more than that.'' Ok then, 1,000 shirts it is.
