Status Update #219 — Monday December 22, 2003

Maintained by Alex Bishop <alex@mozillazine.org>

Previous Updates

Mozilla 1.6 Beta

Mozilla 1.6 Beta has been released, featuring a cross-platform NTLM authentication implementation, the return of the page translation tool and several stability and performance fixes. A branch has been cut for Mozilla 1.6.

Mozilla Firebird

A branch has been created for the forthcoming release of Mozilla Firebird 0.8. The branch will allow Firebird 0.8 work to continue without the uncertainty caused by the daily changes made to the main Mozilla development trunk. However, critical trunk fixes will be merged into the new Firebird 0.8 branch.

Builds from the branch are available from the latest-0.8 FTP directory. They feature a new mechanism for handling files served with a text/plain MIME type and new front end for XPInstall (the code used for installing things like extensions). Read Ben Goodger's post to the MozillaZine Forums for more information about the 0.8 branch.

Camino

Mike Pinkerton has published a roadmap outlining the plans for Camino 0.8. The next release of the native Mac OS X browser will be based on Mozilla 1.7 (due out in March) and will focus on stability, polish and infrastructure improvements. People will be able to suggest bugs that they think should be fixed for 0.8 by using a nomination system similar to the one that exists for the Mozilla Application Suite. Camino 0.8 is expected to be the last release that will support Mac OS X 10.1, with all future versions requiring 10.2 (Jaguar) or higher.

Mozilla Developers Meeting in Europe 4.0

The Mozilla Developers Meeting in Europe 4.0 will take place in Brussels on the weekend of Saturday 21st February and Sunday 22nd February next year. For the third year running, the event will be hosted at the FOSDEM open-source conference. The meeting is still in the early planning stages, with no schedule published yet and speakers being sought from the Mozilla community.

Cookies

The Mozilla Application Suite now has a UI to restrict a particular site's cookies to this session only (bug 225857).

Tree Status

The trunk is currently open (but check tinderbox for the latest status). Checkins to the 1.6 branch require approval from drivers@mozilla.org.
